At Composites One, Safety Comes First
Special Promo on DuPont™ Tyvek® Coveralls Now Available
What’s one of the key challenges facing boatbuilders today? Keeping their workers safe and reducing hazards.
“There’s a perception that being focused on safety can slow down production,” said Cynthia Tarka, Director of Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibility (HS&E) at Composites One. “But in reality, your people are your biggest resource, so it’s important to keep them healthy.”
According to industry research, companies that prioritize worker safety experience an increase in productivity. Boatbuilders are no exception to this trend, and leaders like Tarka at Composites One are driving the movement towards creating a safer work environment.
All employees at Composites One distribution centers undergo a comprehensive safety orientation. Training on safety standards and protocols begins on day one of employment for new hires, including the necessity of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in the work setting. “It is important that employees are informed about the machinery and equipment in their work environment and the types of tasks that they’ll be doing,” said Tarka. “Managers dedicate time to hands-on training to make sure their team members practice performing the tasks that they’ll be responsible for,” she added.
A key aspect of the program is the safety pledge signed by every employee at Composites One. This safety pledge is not just a formality; it is a heartfelt commitment made by every employee to ensure their well-being and that of their colleagues.
This culture of personal responsibility has led to more proactive discussions on safety among team members at Composites One’s 40-plus distribution centers throughout the US and Canada. It’s also resulted in fewer workplace accidents and incidents, and helped foster a tight-knit and safety-conscious community within the company.
This adherence to safety has paid off. Last year, Composites One was presented the Platinum Award from Great West Casualty Company as part of their 2022 National Safety Awards Program. This is the 21st consecutive year that Composites One LLC has been named an award recipient and the 20th Platinum Award in as many years.
“Operating safely directly impacts our value proposition to our customers in providing quality service and dependability,” said Leon Garoufalis, President and CEO, Composites One. “We are proud of our team members and our company-wide focus on safety and compliance each and every day,” he added.
Composites One goes beyond its own workforce to support marine manufacturers in their safety endeavors. That includes providing customers with access to HS&E safety resources such as training videos that they can share with their employees. It also means offering customers an extensive line of PPE and other safety products.
The line includes DuPont™ Tyvek® Coveralls, which help protect workers against hazardous substances and materials. Made of an innovative fabric that acts as a barrier against chemical splashes and airborne particles, DuPont Tyvek Coveralls minimize the risk of skin contact, contamination, and respiratory issues. What’s more, their ergonomic fit ensures comfort and unrestricted movement, reducing fatigue and improving productivity.
Now available from Composites One is a limited time promotion enabling customers to obtain a sample of DuPont Tyvek Coveralls. With PPE that is durable, comfortable, and effective, manufacturers can better ensure the safety of their workers and build a more productive work environment.
