Solid State’s 36V 120Ah 6TL Battery: Changing the Mindset from Limitation to Capacity
By: Theresa Nicholson
Product Category: Electrical Systems
Historically, electrical systems were designed around battery constraints. With Solid State’s industry-changing 36V 120Ah 6TL battery, you can now design marine electrical systems around performance.
Solid State’s 36V 120Ah 6TL battery solves the age-old struggle between power, weight and safety. Traditional batteries are either too heavy, don’t last long enough, or introduce safety concerns. The 36V 120Ah 6TL was specifically designed to deliver high-capacity power in a much smaller, lighter footprint. The innovation comes from replacing traditional liquid electrolytes with a more stable solid-state architecture, improving both safety and energy density. This technology translates into real-world performance—dramatic weight reduction, significantly longer runtime, and the ability to deliver high power on demand. It’s not just an incremental improvement—it’s a fundamental shift in how marine batteries are built and perform.
As the industry moves toward more onboard systems and higher power demand, there’s also an increasing awareness around safety and weight reduction. Solid State sits right at the intersection of those trends—delivering more power in a safer, lighter package.
What problem is Solid State Marine’s 36V 120Ah 6TL battery designed to solve?
The biggest problem we’re solving is the trade-off between power, weight and safety in marine systems. Traditional batteries are either too heavy, don’t last long enough, or introduce safety concerns. The 36V 120Ah 6TL was specifically designed to deliver high-capacity power in a much smaller, lighter footprint—especially for modern boats where space is tight and performance matters. It allows boaters to run more systems, longer, without adding unnecessary weight or complexity.
How would you describe your product and the innovation behind it?
At its core, this is a next-generation solid-state battery built for marine use as well as other high-performance applications. The innovation comes from replacing traditional liquid electrolytes with a more stable solid-state architecture, which improves both safety and energy density.
How has your product changed the way we look at a boat’s electrical system?
It changes the mindset from limitation to capability. Historically, electrical systems were designed around battery constraints—weight, space, and runtime. Now, with Solid State Marine batteries, you can design systems around performance. You can consolidate battery banks, reduce overall system weight, and power more electronics without compromise. It opens the door to more advanced, integrated electrical systems across the entire boat.
Who is the target market for your product?
Our technology is purpose-built for dual-use—serving both recreational and commercial marine applications, as well as defense and mission-critical systems where reliability, safety and performance are non-negotiable. We’re also seeing strong interest from OEM boat builders and advanced marine system integrators who want to push performance further while improving reliability and safety.
Who is currently using the 36V 120Ah 6TL?
The 6TL form factor is uniquely suited for sailing vessels where space is critical, as well as high-performance fishing boats, center consoles, and custom builds. It’s being used by tournament anglers, offshore operators, and early-adopter builders who are looking for a competitive advantage in both performance and efficiency.
What kind of boats, engines and systems is it powering?
The battery is commonly used for trolling motors, house systems, and high-draw electronics like fish finders, radar, and lighting systems. It also supports integrated electrical systems on larger center consoles and offshore boats, where consistent power delivery and long runtime are critical.
What feedback have you received?
We have received extremely positive feedback from our consumers as well as our Pro Staff fisherman who are using our batteries on a day-to-day basis. Customers immediately notice the difference in boat performance when they remove that much weight. At the same time, they’re able to stay out longer without worrying about power. Safety is another big theme—people feel more confident using a system that doesn’t carry the same risks as traditional lithium-ion batteries as we have removed the liquid/gel that other batteries carry.
Does your product respond to larger trends in boating?
Absolutely. The industry is moving toward more electrification, more onboard systems, and higher power demand. At the same time, there’s increasing awareness around safety and weight reduction. Our product sits right at the intersection of those trends—delivering more power in a safer, lighter package.
Are the materials used indicative of broader trends?
Yes—there’s a clear shift toward safer, more stable battery chemistries and more robust construction methods. Solid-state technology reflects that evolution, moving away from liquid-based systems toward designs that are inherently more stable and better suited for demanding environments like marine applications.
What obstacles arose during R&D?
The biggest challenge was balancing performance, safety, and durability in a marine environment. It’s one thing to develop advanced battery technology—it’s another to make it withstand vibration, impact, and extreme temperatures consistently. A lot of the development effort went into ensuring the product performs reliably in real-world conditions, not just in the lab.
What factors led to this design?
A lot of it came directly from feedback in the field from our first consumers and the Pro Staff Team. Boaters, electricians and installers consistently pointed to the same issues—weight, space constraints, and reliability. The 6TL form factor and overall design were developed to address those exact challenges while maximizing usable power in tight spaces.
Why hasn’t this been done successfully before?
Solid-state battery technology is still emerging, and it’s complex to manufacture at a level that meets real-world performance demands. Applying it to marine applications adds another layer of difficulty. It requires not just innovation in chemistry, but also in packaging, thermal management, and durability. That combination has made it difficult for others to execute successfully.
What’s next for Solid State Marine?
We’re continuing to expand both our product lineup and our capabilities. That includes broader voltage offerings, deeper system integration, and continued advancements in solid-state technology to further improve performance, safety and scalability.
Where is battery innovation headed in the marine industry?
We’re moving toward higher energy density, safer chemistries, and smarter systems. The future is batteries that are lighter, more powerful, and fully integrated into the vessel’s electrical architecture—essentially becoming the backbone of modern marine systems. Solid State Marine is a big part of that future, and we’re just at the beginning of what’s possible.
