AquaAmp SeaSocket: Easy, Safe Power to Every Corner of Your Boat
By Theresa Nicholson
Product Category: Electrical Systems
AquaAmp’s innovative SeaSocket design is so intuitive that its simplicity belies the complexity of the engineering. At its core, Seasocket turns a familiar marine cup holder into a 12V, high power smart power point. Hidden within the design, the constraints are unusually hard: high current, safety, corrosion resistance, water exposure, temporary mounting, clean aesthetics, and compatibility with changing accessories all at once. The challenge is multi-faceted.
By combining clean aesthetics with universal accessory compatibility, SeaSocket is a new way to integrate power throughout vessels, not just a standalone product.
What problem is the AquaAmp SeaSocket designed to solve? What part of boating experience is the SeaSocket designed to improve?
SeaSocket is designed to solve a basic but persistent boating problem—portable marine devices need power all over the boat, but traditional 12V outlets are limited in placement, awkward to install, exposed to the elements, and not very adaptable as devices change. AquaAmp positions SeaSocket as a way to bring safe 12V power to every corner of your boat using the footprint of a standard cup holder, improving convenience, flexibility and the overall cleanliness of the onboard experience.
Could you describe the innovation and advances found in the SeaSocket?
The core innovation is that SeaSocket turns a familiar marine cup holder into a 12V, high power smart power point. It is not just a disguised outlet; it adds wireless authentication, smart leads that only energize when an approved accessory is inserted, rugged marine-oriented materials, and a modular accessory ecosystem. Our solution also provides structural support for temporary device mounting, doubles as a cup holder when not in use, and avoids the usual clutter of permanently mounted electronics, cables, covers and extra holes.
How has the AquaAmp SeaSocket affected the choices within a boat’s Electrical Systems?
SeaSocket shifts the design choice from the question Where do we permanently hardwire a specific outlet or accessory? to Where should we place flexible power access points? That changes electrical-system planning in a more modular direction. Instead of locking a boat into today’s chargers and accessories, builders can place SeaSocket cup holders throughout the boat and let owners add or swap compatible powered accessories later, without re-rigging or drilling more holes.
Who is the target market for SeaSocket?
The primary market for SeaSocket is OEM boat builders, and we are currently working with several large manufacturers to integrate SeaSocket cup holders into upcoming models. At the same time, we will offer a growing range of compatible accessories, such as phone chargers, drink coolers, and air pumps directly to end consumers through our website, allowing boat owners to customize and expand their onboard functionality over time.
Why do you think no one has designed a successful product like the SeaSocket before?
Honestly, the problem looks simple, but the constraints are unusually hard: high current, safety, corrosion resistance, water exposure, temporary mounting, clean aesthetics, and compatibility with changing accessories all at once. Traditional marine power products solve only pieces of that problem. SeaSocket combines a familiar form factor, sealed construction, authentication-based power activation, and a modular accessory concept in one system.
What impact do you see SeaSocket having on the boating industry?
We expect SeaSocket to push marine electrical design toward modular, upgradeable power access rather than fixed-function outlets. This includes cleaner designs, fewer dedicated cutouts, easier aftermarket upgrades, and a broader ecosystem of powered accessories that can move around the boat. This is a new way to integrate power throughout vessels, not just as a standalone product.
Will SeaSocket integrate into boat building systems currently in existence?
Yes, that is one of its main selling points. SeaSocket uses the same footprint as regular cup holders and does not require hull redesign or additional holes.
Is SeaSocket indicative of any current product development or boat building trends?
Yes. SeaSocket reflects the growing expectation for accessible 12V power throughout the boat. Today’s boaters bring an increasing range of portable electronics—drones, cameras, tablets, air pumps, electric reels—and that demand continues to rise. Traditionally, meeting this need meant adding more hardwired accessories, increasing complexity and cost for builders while locking boats into hardware that can quickly become outdated. SeaSocket shifts that approach by giving builders a modular power platform, allowing owners to customize and update their onboard accessories over time without additional rigging.
Are the materials of your product indicative of trends in the boating industry or boatbuilding?
Yes, in the sense that they reflect the market’s move toward more rugged, premium, longer-lasting marine components. SeaSocket uses marine-grade metal alloys, UV-stable plastics, no moving parts, no hinged doors, smart corrosion prevention, soft rubber tabs, stainless steel bezel, and a potted circuit board. We made these choices to align with broader expectations for durability, low maintenance, and better environmental resistance in marine hardware.
Why do you think customers will choose the SeaSocket?
Customers will choose it because it solves multiple problems at once. It delivers meaningful power, it looks integrated rather than cluttered, it is safer in a wet marine environment, and it lets boaters add or move accessories without rewiring the boat. For builders, it future-proofs the platform. For owners, it makes the boat easier to configure over time.
What’s next for AquaAmp?
We are actively building an entire catalog of SeaSocket accessories and continuing to improve our lineup of industry-leading wireless phone chargers. We are proud to say we have the fastest waterproof phone chargers on the market and don’t plan on letting that change anytime soon!
