John McKnight, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Senior Vice-President of Environmental and Safety Compliance, has pulled together a panel to discuss Regulatory Challenges and Opportunities for Boatbuilders in 2018 at IBEX on Wednesday, October 3, at 8:30am. The panel, comprised of John with David Marlow (Brunswick Corporation) and Jeff Melby (Pinnacle Engineering) recently saw a new addition: Brian Storey from the US Environmental Protection Agency. Here’s why this is important.
Brian Storey, who is a member of the staff responsible for the boat manufacturing residual risk review for the EPA, will be presenting the current status of the rule-making for the Residual Risk Review.
Residual Risk Review is the last boatbuilder program in the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, which requires EPA to look at any additional risk hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) emitted from boat manufacturing plants may have on the local community. It also requires EPA to determine if any hazardous air pollutants, such as MDI and Cobalt, were not regulated under MACT. And, finally, if there may be a new technology since MACT that could be applied to boatbuilding to further reduce HAP emissions.
As you can imagine the EPA Boat Manufacturing Residual Risk Review final rule could have a significant impact on your boat plant operations.
You will also hear what NMMA is doing to further prepare boatbuilders in the event that styrene or other HAPs emitted from boat plants were to be reclassified to a category with increased risk.
